About the Project

Organized in 1841, Houston’s First Baptist Church is an icon in the Houston religious community. Their rich history includes several moves until landing at their current location in 1977. Since that time, the church has made a commitment to being a thriving and diverse community of real people experiencing real life together. This philosophy has led to continued growth and expansion. Tellepsen partnered with Houston’s First Baptist Church on several projects, including a complete interior renovation of a 3,335-seat worship center with a five-month construction schedule. The new design modernized the space and updated the seating, catwalks, ceilings, finishes and lighting. The choir and music areas were also reconfigured during the project. Tellepsen also worked on a 15,000 square foot, 3-story education building addition, and a 40,000 SF renovation to the existing education wing. These renovations and expansions have helped Houston’s First respond to explosive growth in the church.
