About the Project
In celebration of Hermann Park’s 100th birthday, the Hermann Park Conservancy partnered with Tellepsen to transform a 15-acre site, where the Houston Garden Center previously stood, into the new McGovern Centennial Gardens. Garden includes a grand entry pavilion and a covered Arbor Walk which leads to 8-acres of lush, colorful themed gardens. The focal point of the project is the 8,000-square-foot Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion, constructed of glass with an angled, open central wall of dark granite and a ceiling of glowing stainless steel that reflects the natural colors of the earth, sky and water. Another key feature of the garden is the 30-foot high garden mount that is surrounded at the base by lush fig ivy and yaupon shrubs. The mount features a granite waterfall and covered walkways leading to its peak which provides beautiful panoramic views of Hermann Park.
